In November 1934, Columbia Records in the UK formed The Delius Society, with Sir Thomas Beecham as its Artistic Director, and shortly afterwards released the first of three volumes of recordings.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"body\" align=\"left\"\u003eThis first retrospective contained two major single-movement orchestral pieces, \u003cem\u003eParis\u003c\/em\u003e and \u003cem\u003eEventyr\u003c\/em\u003e, together with the closing scene from the opera \u003cem\u003eKoanga\u003c\/em\u003e, the \u003cem\u003eSerenade\u003c\/em\u003e from incidental music Delius wrote in 1920 for James Elroy Flecker's play \"\u003cem\u003eHassan\u003c\/em\u003e\", and two short songs from the 1890s set to words by Shelley.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"body\" align=\"left\"\u003eThese excellent recordings could hardly be more contemporary to their composer, and Beecham had long been a powerful advocate of Delius' music.
